Andrea Wijnaendts

The Lighthouse Support Worker
Andrea began working for Treasure Seekers in the Spring of 2018 to help set up daytime opportunities for adults with learning disabilities in The Lighthouse. She began working as a carer in a home for those with dementia in 2012 alongside her Marine Biology degree. She quickly discovered that making someone’s day better was something that she had a passion for and continued to work as a domiciliary carer after her degree finished. She began working as a support worker with adults with learning disabilities as, from her own personal experience, she knew this was something that she had a passion for. This led to her and her mother moving to Kingfisher Treasure Seekers and helping to create The Lighthouse Day Opportunities which is now open to support adults with learning disabilities to realise and achieve their goals in a fun, family atmosphere. These days, Andrea pops in when she can to help out the team working in a more flexible way for her.
In her spare time she enjoys making candles and is practising making carved candles. She is also an approved rescue diver with the Professional Association of Diving Instructors. Andrea has a passion for dog training which she does with her black lab Benji.
